Linda McHenry

Linda McHenry – Clarinet

How long have you been playing and when did you start? (School, age, etc.)
I started in 6th grade.

What other groups (if any) have you played in over the years or are you currently playing in? Please include military.
High school marching band, concert band, pep band, dance band.

Have you played continuously, or did your instrument gather dust in the closet for several years? What brought you back?
I did not continue playing in college because Penn State had an all-boy marching band at that time and I didn’t want to try out for the concert band because it would involve too much traveling. I gave my clarinet to my younger brother. Many, many years later, I got it back, but I had no motivation to pick it up until I found Northern Winds.

What do you like about playing in Northern Winds?
The wonderful people and fun music. I didn’t realize how much I missed playing in a band until I joined. High school band was a big part of my teenage life and now Northern Winds fills that void. (Yes, I am still a kid at heart.)

Anything else you would like to include: Current employment, school, (music degree), retirement, family—whatever you would like known about you!!
I have seven children (4 boys and 3 girls) and eight amazing grandchildren as of January 2019 (with more on the way). I enjoy spending time with my family whenever I can and am fortunate that they all live in the area. I am self-employed part-time as a computer programmer. In addition to music, my hobbies are reading, knitting, crocheting, counted cross-stitch and quilting.
