Northern Winds Concert Band
To give interested musicians an opportunity (both during and beyond their high school and college years) to perform in concerts for the community. Our only requirements are that you have an instrument, a love for music and the desire to share your talent with others.
Meet Jeremy Morgan, new director
Our former director, Joe Speakman, a jolly not-so-old soul, has decided to retire after blessing us with 20 years in sharing his love of music and performance through his incredible energy, passion and showmanship.
Thank you Joe for all you’ve done to broaden our musical horizons and well beyond.
And so another page turns and a new melody begins.
Yes, you’re not seeing double! Jeremy has been co-director of the South of the River Community band for a number of years and we are happy to announce he has ventured “north of the river” to fill a director position with us.
Jeremy N. Morgan grew up playing piano and trumpet in Bloomington, MN, and graduated from Bloomington Jefferson studying under Dr. Earl Benson. He got his degree in Music Education from the University of Utah, studying under Dr. Barry Kopetz, Scott Hagen, and Dr. Mark Ely. He also studied composition under Tully Cathey and Mark Johnson, with the University of Utah premiering one of his first works for wind ensemble. After moving back to Minnesota, he joined the South of the River Community Band in Eagan, MN, where he played, at various times: cornet, percussion, oboe, tuba, and alto clarinet. While there, the band premiered over a dozen of his compositions. He was made co-director of the band 5 years ago, stepping down to assume the full-time director position of the Northern Winds Concert Band. He lives in North Minneapolis..
